The 2019 "Taiwan Innotech Expo" which showcases the rich research and development energy of industry, government, academia, and research sectors, will grandly open on September 26th at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1. Shaping the three major curatorial themes of Future Technology, Innovative Inventions, and Sustainable Development across diverse fields, the expo showcases concrete outcomes resulting from recent technology budget investments, with the goal of propelling Taiwan to be a pivotal platform for international technology exchange.
From Smart Living to Smart Manufacturing: Crafting the Outlook of Future Technology
Coordinated by the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the "Future Technology Pavilion" centers around three major themes: "Smart City," "Digital Services," and "Smart Manufacturing." It also encompasses two ecological scenario zones: "Future Mobility" and "National Defense Industry." With the participation of 17 research and development entities, 60 domestic companies, and others, this pavilion showcases a total of 100 domestically developed technologies and products. It incorporates interactive multimedia technology and facial recognition technology into the exhibition, establishing a smart service domain that combines test verification and technology experience. Utilizing a systematically integrated dynamic display method, it reveals the future appearances of "Future Smart City," "Future Information Station," and "Future Smart Factory."

Developed by ITRI, this is currently the only artificial intelligence (AI) reading technology globally that can detect four major symptoms and clearly indicate their locations. The system provides a classification model for five levels of diabetic retinopathy and a binary model for referring patients to ophthalmology. With AI assisting doctors in screening for eye abnormalities in diabetic patients, this technology effectively aids doctors in assessing the severity of abnormalities.
5G Cloud-Based Motion Sensing Gaming System: Adding Fun to Interactive Gaming
Developed in collaboration between UWINLOC and ITRI, this system utilizes the edge cloud server platform (iMEC) and the advantages of 5G networks and cloud computing to create a 5G cloud-based motion sensing gaming system. This enhances user experience in flexible and multiplayer interactive gaming, providing a 5G solution with low setup costs and high computational efficiency. It also becomes an indispensable personalized motion sensing human-machine interface for future cloud gaming.
Industry 4.0 Smart Mechanical Production Line: Remote Monitoring through Cloud Ordering
Yu Jia Industry and Sin Han Company have developed a cloud-customized mobile phone stand production line using domestically produced controllers and robotic arms as the core. This production line integrates the concept of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) under the Industry 4.0 trend. It allows consumers to place orders online through the cloud, customize various designs, and quickly link their customization requirements to the factory side. While manufacturing is in progress, manufacturers can remotely monitor processing conditions and machine operating parameters using a tablet or mobile phone.
Connected Vehicle Autonomous Driving System: Realizing the Dream of Electric Car Autonomy
Accumulating years of experience in electronic map creation, Q-Wheel International Technology combines lidar, radar, imagery, GPS, IMU, and other fusion technologies to create high-definition maps exclusively for self-driving cars. They integrate AI self-driving decision-making systems and years of development in vehicle communication services to build an AI-connected vehicle autonomous driving system. The service is now providing autonomous testing within the Tiger Head Mountain Innovation Park and offering component and field testing for various sectors.
Unmanned Material Handling Vehicle: 360-Degree Flexible Mobility Without Traffic Jams
Developed by the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), this unmanned material handling vehicle features wireless flexibility and agile mobility. Using wireless intelligent connections, multiple unmanned material handling vehicles can form a fleet. Its main feature is biomimicry, allowing coordinated transport of objects of various sizes and shapes, similar to how ants cooperate to carry objects of special sizes and shapes. Therefore, it can handle general materials or large objects like containers. The unmanned material handling vehicle boasts 360-degree unrestricted mobility, allowing it to move forward, sideways, or within indoor confined spaces, easily overcoming areas where traditional unmanned vehicles cannot operate smoothly.

Advanced Intelligent Safety Three-Wheel Heavy Motorcycle: Pioneering Global Intelligence
Developed by Yadea Industry, this unique and advanced intelligent safety three-wheel heavy motorcycle integrates advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) into a three-wheel motorcycle framework. It includes features such as anti-lock brake systems, automatic brake assistance systems, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning systems, and intelligent screen information display. This creation is a high-intelligence, high-security, high-value domestically produced heavy three-wheel motorcycle and has obtained six patents in 13 countries worldwide, including Taiwan and Japan.
Aerospace Metal Laser Additive Manufacturing Technology: Producing All Parts Independently
The National Zhongshan Science Research Institute has invested in metal additive manufacturing and application technology development, establishing a complete process chain from design, analysis, production, testing, and verification for metal additive manufacturing. The produced components adhere to aerospace-grade material standards and can be applied to domestically produced aerospace and defense metal components. This aligns with the "Self-Reliance and Self-Production" policy, with the aim of achieving independent research and development.
Domestic and International Academic, Industrial, and Research Institutions Converge to Foster International Collaboration
Taiwan Innotech Expo aims to utilize Taiwan's research capabilities and geographical advantages as a bridge between Southeast Asia and advanced nations in terms of technology. It aspires to make Taiwan an "International Research Achievements Trading Hub." To achieve this, in addition to showcasing 100 domestically developed technologies and products, the "Future Technology Pavilion" features an international zone. This zone invites 21 international institutions to participate, including the world's sixth-largest automaker, Nissan; Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA); Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; Fraunhofer HHI, Europe's largest applied research institution; and Microsoft, a global technology industry leader. Their application domains span areas such as automobiles, chemicals, energy, healthcare, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The expo aims to position Taiwan as a bridge for technology between Southeast Asia and advanced nations, becoming a hub for international research achievements trading and stimulating opportunities for bilateral intellectual property and technology cooperation.
