T-REC Production Model of Sugar Mills
Technology Introduction:
TSC Huwei and Shanhua sugar mills produce 110,000 metric tons of bagasse annually, 70% of which powers on-site cogeneration. To advance the green energy transition, Huwei was certified as a renewable energy facility in 2024 and is expected to generate 5,000-6,000 T-RECs in 2025; Shanhua targets 3,000-4,000 T-RECs in 2026. These initiatives drive the sugar industry toward net-zero sustainability.
Industry Applicability:
By promoting biomass renewable energy certificates, the sugar mills can sell them through trading platforms to "environmental benefit users" — including banks, tech, and biotech firms — to support RE100 goals, enhance ESG scores, and improve corporate image. This not only creates additional revenue for the mills, but also drives domestic renewable energy adoption and green economic growth.
