Development of a 20-Qubit Superconducting Quantum Computer and Quantum Chip Fabrication Processes
Technology Introduction:
We have developed a 20-qubit superconducting quantum processor featuring frequency-tunable qubits and adjustable coupling strengths to enhance single- and two-qubit gate fidelities. A rapid calibration framework using automated tuning and reinforcement learning can achieve a 99.6% two-qubit gate fidelity. Furthermore, we implemented an industrial-compatible, non-lift-off fabrication process that reduces surface contamination and significantly improves overall qubit performance and scalability.
Industrial Applications:
Taiwan is advancing next-generation computing via a CPU+GPU+QPU architecture. By integrating automated calibration and reinforcement learning, we enhance superconducting quantum computer performance. We established a standard fabrication process using industrial-grade equipment, improving qubit stability, uniformity, and coherence. This enables large-scale production of high-quality chips, laying the foundation for future mass production and commercialization.
Academia Sinica
Founded in 1928, Academia Sinica has earned a reputation for being Taiwan’s national academic institution. Our statutory mission is to pursue research excellence, nurture academic talent, and issue policy advisories.
Academia Sinica currently has 24 institutes and 9 research centers located in three research sections: the Mathematics and Physical Sciences Division, Life Sciences Division, and Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. There are currently over 8,000 research fellows, research technicians, assistants, and administrative staff, making it a rare research institution internationally that achieves a balanced development in both natural sciences and humanities and social sciences.
