Industrial Applications:
Soil steam disinfection is widely used to control soil-borne diseases and pests, alleviate continuous cropping problems, and eliminate weed seeds. Steam treatment effectively destroys plant pathogenic fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and many weed seeds. As a physical disinfection method, it leaves no chemical residues, allowing crops to be replanted shortly after treatment.

The Tainan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TDARES), under the Ministry of Agriculture, is one of Taiwan’s key regional agricultural research and extension institutions, serving Tainan City, Chiayi County and City, and Yunlin County. Established in 1902, it has more than a century of history and has long been responsible for agricultural research, technology promotion, and farmer advisory services. Its research focuses on crop breeding and cultivation technologies for rice, field crops, fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental flowers. The station is also actively engaged in plant protection, soil and fertilizer management, post-harvest handling, food processing, agricultural mechanization, smart agriculture, and sustainable farming systems. Through experimental research, demonstration fields, training programs, technical consultation, and technology transfer, the station helps farmers improve productivity, reduce production costs, and enhance product quality and added value. In response to challenges such as climate change, labor shortages, and net-zero emission goals, TDARES continuously promotes smart, labor-saving, and sustainable agricultural technologies. Its mission is to strengthen agricultural competitiveness and support the sustainable development of agriculture in southern Taiwan.
