Epidural anesthesia is a common procedure, which has been widely used for painless labor, chronic pain control and regional anesthesia. More than 12M shots are performed in the U.S. annually. However, it relies on the physicians’ hand feeling which is subjective and unclear. Currently, the over puncture rate is as high as 2-5％, and the over puncture of epidural space leads to serious headache, nausea and permanent nerve injury.
The goal of EpiFaith is to reduce the risk of over puncture. Thanks to its pressure detecting mechanism, EpiFaith auto-locating syringe will provide a clear, visual and objective signal when the needle tip has entered the epidural space. The physician can easily realize the position of the needle tip, eliminating the risk of epidural over puncture.
The technic is a pure mechanical and consumable device that has a similar feature with traditional epidural LOR manual syringe. It is intuitive and compatible to current practice and accessories, reducing the switching and training cost. Because EpiFaith can decrease the cost related to side effects, the overall expanse of the epidural anesthesia can be reduced even if the price of EpiFaith is higher than traditional LOR epidural syringe.
EpiFaith has been cleared by FDA, CE and TFDA and used in well known medical centers including, Stanford, BWH, UZ Leuven, VGH Taipei.
The core technology of EpiFaith can also be used on other blind puncture procedures, such as nerve block and pneumocentesis. The 2nd product of EpiFaith, EpiFaith CV for central venous catheterization, has entered the regulatory process.
