Self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) are a technology used to enhance the oral bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. They are isotropic mixtures of oils, surfactants, and sometimes cosolvents, which spontaneously form fine oil-in-water emulsions or microemulsions when exposed to aqueous environments like those in the gastrointestinal tract. This emulsification increases the solubility and absorption of the drug, improving its bioavailability.
