Bioremediation of Organic Halide Groundwater Contamination with Dechlorination Bio-gel: Novel Bioremediation Solution
Chloroethene is carcinogenic which is extremely harmful to the human. Currently, the effect of bioremediation of chloroethene is efficient and it is also friendly to the environment. However, most of the products after dechlorination will be accumulated in dichloroethene and vinyl chloride.
Dehalococcoides (Dhc) can degrade chloroethenes into the final product, non-toxic ethene, which was immobilized into the silica gel for enhanced dechlorination. The immobilized gel contains both Dhc and hydrogen-producing bacteria, which shows the complete dichlorination for reused operation, with the longevity of more than 180 days, The efficiency of our immobilized system could be desired for remediation of the contaminated groundwater. Our immobilized system is a novel and efficient method to remediate chloroethene into ethene, a non-toxic compound.
The immobilized system with the co-culture of Dhc and Clostridium sp, a hydrogen-producing bacterium, can completely dechlorinate polychlorinated ethene to ethene. It has the advantages of dechlorination activity, including dechlorination specificity, tolerance for environmental stress, and efficient remediation. Therefore, this novel dechlorination bio-gel bioremediation technology can be used for degrading polluted polychloroethene.
The novel dechlorination bio-gel bioremediation technology of our team can be used in the soil and groundwater remediation industry. Therefore, our target clients are environmental companies and polluters. Using the remediation technology from our team, we can directly help customers solving the accumulation of vinyl chloride, moreover reduce the addition of compounds and remediation period.
