A conventional cascaded inverter would have only 3 levels. To further reduce the size, especially the magnetic components, we hybridize the cascaded structure by making one inverter cell voltage floating, which can be charged and discharged by other cells. The current design consists of 12 modules in stack for 6.6 kV AC. The line-to-line voltage becomes 11.2 kV that is popularly used in most utilities. The power level is 100 kW, and the efficiency is 99% in this design.
