Future Tech | Electronics & OptoelectronicsNational Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) has developed an alert gateway that allows the public to integrate cellular broadcast alert services with smart home systems without needing to use a mobile phone. When a disaster is imminent, the alert gateway can automatically trigger smart IoT devices. For example, in the event of an earthquake, it can automate disaster mitigation procedures such as controlling home lighting, shutting off gas appliances that are in use, or even opening doors in advance to facilitate evacuation. This automation helps people respond to disasters in a more orderly manner.
Future Tech | Information & CommunicationsThe Climate Change Disaster Risk Map Platform utilizes an online geographic information system (GIS) interface to display various disaster risk maps under future climate change scenarios. Users can overlay different layers based on their specific interests, making it more accessible for national land planning, local adaptation planning, and industries to survey and assess the spatial distribution of disaster risks due to climate change.
Future Tech | Information & CommunicationsThis system supports local governments in disaster planning by integrating twelve types of statistical data. It is used for querying historical events, estimating evacuated and sheltered people, calculating required shelter space, and assessing supplies in need based on age and regional characteristics. Additionally, the system allows users to search for shelter information and view results through map displays and downloadable data.
Future Tech | Information & CommunicationsThe invention includes methods for measuring the hydrolysis time of the glycan attached to membrane glycocalyx, accompanying the maximum wax remnant adhering to the cell membrane, and the maximum bias for polarizing the glycan of membrane glycocalyx. Using these two parameters as digital indicators of the malignancy of cancer cells can improve the accuracy of cancer assessment and reduce the chance of human misjudgment.
Future Tech | Electronics & OptoelectronicsThe focal plane assembly is the remote sensing component which converts the light to electrical signal. The Focal plane assembly applied on Formosat-8 telescope will perform the ground sample distance one meter of P band, two meter of MS band. In order to improve the image signal to noise ratio (SNR), Formosat-8 FPA has the time delay integration technique to perform high SNR and quality image.
Future Tech | Machinery & SystemWe utilize magnetron sputtering to fabricate Non-Evaporable Getter (NEG) films. After activation, these films can maintain ultra-high vacuum (10-10(上標) Torr) without pumps, with activation temperatures below 200 °C. Once activated, the getter films absorb residual gases in the vacuum system to achieve the desired vacuum level. Common residual gases include H2(下標), H2(下標)O, CO, and CO2(下標).
Future Tech | Electronics & OptoelectronicsThe Optical System Assembly (OSA) in the FORMOSAT-8A optical remote sensing instrument is equipped with a high-resolution Ritchey–Chrétien optical system with 396mm aperture and 3927mm effective focal length. This system can capture high-resolution images with ground sampling distance of 1.0 meter, using a 7μm pixel-size image sensor while orbiting at an altitude of 561km (0.7m GSD with post image processing).
Future Tech | Machinery & SystemHigh-intensity synchrotron radiation sources make on-site experiments possible and can handle data exceeding terabytes. The new technology has improved speed and resolution, with speed increasing by one to two orders of magnitude and resolution by one order of magnitude compared to traditional methods, driving scientific research forward. Combined with automated sample exchange, alignment systems, and AI-driven automated data processing, this technology becomes a powerful analytical tool.
Future Tech | Electronics & OptoelectronicsThe operational safety and cost are superior to the traditional space propulsion systems by utilizing nontoxic high-test peroxide (HTP) as the propellant. All components are developed and verified by TASA. A total solution for satellite applications with design flexibility can be provided to satisfy the versatility of mission requirements.
Future Tech | Machinery & SystemWe use VR interactive technology to visualize 3D CFD data. Through volume rendering techniques, we can observe the distribution of simulated values such as temperature and velocity. We optimize data transfer and switching to observe dynamic simulation results. By calculating pathlines on the fly, we present the directionality within the 3D flow field. Users can use VR controllers to place particles at any position to observe flow direction in areas of interest.
Future Tech | Green Energy & EnvironmentThe most effective method to reduce carbon emission in a blst furnace is to use hydrogen, substituting coke, to reduce iron ore. However, the mechanism as well as kinetics of iron ore reduction by hydrogen is still not understood clearly that hinder the use of hydrogen in practice. We thus construction an in-situ chamber to faciliate synchrotron X-ray analyses under high temperature and hydrogen environment simultaneously. Result is of great help to control parameters of a blast furnace and reduce carbon emission by using hydrogen successfully.
