Multifunctional biodegradable biocomposite for plants and mushrooms grown under controlled environmental conditions. This technology enables the progress of sustainable and functional biomaterials and nanomaterials toward sustainable production and safe-super food translation.
Water waste is reduced by up to 75%, slow-release of bio-nutrients in the substrate reduce growth times by as much as 30% and the use of chemical fertilizers is reduced by up to 95%.
Mushrooms could be grown truly hydroponically on these substrates due to it’s adaptable structure and the fact that it could be autoclaved. This has multiple implications, but most importantly that mushrooms could be grown without bio-contamination by bacteria, which occurs when growing them on traditional substrates like peat or sawdust.
