6G RF Front-End Chip and Massive MIMO Antenna Array Technology

Technology Introduction:
To significantly increase wireless data rates, future 6G systems are expected to adopt the new 6–8.5 GHz spectrum and leverage Extremely Massive MIMO antenna array technology to enhance spectral efficiency. To this end, ITRI has developed a novel 6G RF front-end chip that successfully integrates a power amplifier, a low-noise amplifier, and an RF switch, while featuring low noise and high linearity. In addition, ITRI has collaborated with National Sun Yat-sen University to develop an innovative double-density antenna array and module technology, which enables twice the number of antennas to be integrated within the same array aperture, forming twice the number of data beams while achieving wideband operation. This 6G RF chip and array prototype will help Taiwan establish key technologies for 6G base station RF front-end and antenna modules, facilitate the development of a domestic supply chain, and seize opportunities in the emerging 6G market.
Industrial Applications:
This technology successfully integrates Taiwan's domestic 6G industrial supply chain capabilities, including semiconductor fabrication, IC design, and antenna array module development. ITRI leads the development of GaAs RF power amplifier and low-noise amplifier IP cores. In addition, ITRI has successfully developed a novel double-density integrated Massive MIMO antenna array technology for emerging 6G frequency bands, driving technological leadership and the domestic design of high-efficiency, highly integrated, and scalable 6G RF front-end modules and Massive MIMO antenna arrays.
