Development Technology of Chitosan Fiber Textiles
Our institute’s Chitosan Fiber Technology transforms discarded shrimp and crab shells into high-performance hemostatic gauze capable of stopping bleeding within five minutes, surpassing military-grade standards. A plant-based version reduces allergy risks and enhances wound healing by 36%. Protected by 20 global patents, the technology has been licensed to industry partners, generating over NT$2 billion in economic value and supplying more than 150,000 units to Taiwan’s military and ambulance systems.
Industrial Applications:
This technology offers high cross-industry scalability. In the medical sector, it can expand into absorbable hemostatic powders, dental patches, and burn dressings. For consumer lifestyle, its antibacterial and low-allergen traits enable applications in sensitive-skin functional apparel, infant textiles, and medical-grade masks. It can also be used for heavy metal filtration and water dechlorination.
