Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture System

Technology Introduction:
The Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture System (IMAS) restores mangroves in abandoned fish ponds through sustainable aquaculture and blue carbon enhancement. IMAS improved water quality, achieved carbon sequestration of 102 t CO2e/ha/yr, and increased soil organic carbon by 32%. IMAS restored biodiversity and included an MRV-compliant carbon model to support carbon credits and climate finance. IMAS offers a scalable solution for balancing carbon neutrality, ecosystem restoration, and food security.
Industrial Applications:
This technology develops the first Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture System (IMAS) to restore mangroves in abandoned aquaculture ponds. It integrates carbon enhancement, water purification, and sustainable aquaculture, achieving carbon sequestration up to 102 tCO2e/ha/yr while reducing wastewater pollution and enhancing biodiversity and coastal resilience. Applied in Taiwan’s Blue Carbon Program, it shows strong potential for blue carbon credits, ESG investment, and sustainable coastal management.
