This technology is a reversible reaction that is a post combustion capture CO2 by calcium looping. Limestons were major ingredient is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and is very rich in Taiwan. Calcium carbonate becomes calcium oxide (CaO) by calcination at 850-950°C in the calciner. Capture CO2 by CaO at 650-700°C is carbonation reaction in carbonator. CaO capture CO2 produces CaCO3 and the CaCO3 regenerate to CaO.
The CaO/CaCO3 Looping capture CO2 is a reversible process. The pure CO2 was collected from calciner emission which can be used in sequestration and reuse. Based on stoichiometry that is per kilogram of sorbent can captured 768 gram of CO2. In order to maintain a higher capture efficiency is needed to discharge deactivation sorbent and make up with flow fresh sorbent. Deactivation sorbent can be used in concrete, mineral storage CO2 material and make of high value light calcium carbonate that is environmentally friendly. In addition CaO Looping can heat recovery to produce high quality steam that can be used to generate power or for manufacturing. The technical advantages of integrating include: cheaper, rich sorbent available in Taiwan and commercially available in the future.
