The calcium looping process is considered one of the most promising post-combustion processes for large-scale CO2 capture. CaO reacts with gaseous CO2 to facilitate the carbonation reaction in a carbonator. The carbonated sorbent (CaCO3) is subsequently transferred to the calciner for sorbent regeneration (endothermic calcination reaction) and is cyclically transported between the carbonator and calciner in the calcium looping system.
Calcium looping process has been regarded as a potential carbon mitigation technology due to its characteristics of nontoxic sorbent, high CO2 capture capacity, high-quality heat recovery, and low sorbent cost. The captured CO2 can be used in sequestration, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and reuse. Taiwan has potential to develop this carbon capture technology because of abundance limestone contained in nature.
Responsibilities include the formulation of energy policies and regulations; forecasting, planning, and promoting energy supply and demand; reviewing matters related to energy development, production, storage, conversion, distribution, sales, and utilization; proposing energy tariff schemes and reviewing pricing mechanisms; granting permits, registration, management, guidance, and supervision of energy-related enterprises; registration and oversight of certified energy professionals; establishment and management of energy data systems; promotion of energy conservation measures, technical services, and public awareness initiatives; research, development, and dissemination of new energy, renewable energy, and energy-saving technologies; coordination and cooperation in international energy affairs; and other matters related to energy administration.
