A biocontrol agent againsts Fusarium diseases on Phalaenopsis seedlings during maritime transport
Phalaenopsis is Taiwan’s main product in the global orchid market. The main export method is container shipping. Long-term transportation are rich decay, especially leaf yellows caused by Fusarium sp.. The loss rate is as high as 15-30％. In order to reverse this problem, Taiwan Sugar Research Institute has developed a biocontrol agent of bacterial ferment. The bacterial ferment applied on Phalaenopsis 2~3 days before shipment. After 49 days of sea transporation to the United States. Compared with the control , the occurrence of yellow leaf disease was reduced by about 50％.
