Bioinspired iKNOBEADS as Ancillary Materials for Next-Generation Cell Immunotherapy

Cell immunotherapy has become an emerging cancer therapy. Take CAR-T as an example. T-cells in patients’ blood must undergo genetic modification and expansion in vitro before being reinfused. This standard process takes 10 to 12 days. In the human body, dendritic cells with irregular protrusion activate T-cells. Under the bionic concept, ITRI developed the world’s first micron-sized magnetic beads with dendritic-like configurations named iKNOBEADS. Its unique structure enhances the interaction between magnetic beads and T-cells, leading to higher T-cell expansion efficiency, better quality, and a reduced 7-day manufacturing time. iKNOBEADS can also potentially be applied to various cellular immunotherapies such as γδT, NK, and TIL. iKNOBEADS are available in GMP-grade quality and have already been proved by domestic and international research and studies.
