Atmospheric Plasma Spray Energy Storage Component Technology

The National Atomic Research Institute, formerly known as the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research Institute, has dedicated many years to plasma technology research. We have developed high-quality Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) technology and, in line with national policies, have invested in the development of important energy storage components, including Metal-Supported Solid Oxide Cells (MS-SOCs) and Solid-State Lithium-Ion Batteries (SSLIBs).
APS MS-SOCs products offer advantages such as high efficiency, rapid start-up, and low manufacturing costs. They can also be used for power generation and hydrogen energy storage conversion, depending on the demanding, making them a key technology to assist our country in transitioning into a hydrogen energy society. The large size (1010 cm2) MS-SOCs cells made by APS process reveal high efficiency at 700CoC, such as 50 Watts per cell at 0.7V and 0.5 LPM H2 production per cell.
There are three major innovations in APS-SSLIBs: high percentage of active material cathode layer, high ionic conductivity solid electrolyte layer and low spray stress. The APS cathode layer (~2.9 m) reveals high volume capacity of 56 Ah/cm2m, which is higher than the 42 Ah/cm2m of commercially cathodes. When the film thickness increases to 10 m or more, the APS cathodes still maintain high volume capacity between 40~50 Ah/cm2m.
