The lower mm-wave frequency range (30 GHz – 100 GHz) is of high interest for communication e.g. 5G as well as for radar and imaging. In this frequency range, waveguide components and waveguide antennas are used, due to their superior performance. Currently waveguide components are mainly fabricated by means of subtractive methods like milling which have certain limitations with respect to the possible shapes and geometries. Additive methods like metal 3D printing do not have these restrictions. Current state-of-the art 3D printing is now capable of producing complex waveguide components with a sufficient accuracy, comparable to milling techniques.
We will showcase novel and superior waveguide components like rotary joints or omnidirectional antennas produced by metal 3D printing which could not be built by conventional methods.
The addressed market is test and measurement equipment for research and development.
