The aim of the research is to develop smart clothing for 16 Taiwanese national athletes to training and preparing for attending 2019 Summer Universiade. The research utilizes a wearable electronic device, functional textiles under Olympic games require level, well pattern-making technology and garment details to construct customized smart clothing for completive sports propose, including weight lifting, woodball, swimming, basketball, archery, shooting, hammer throw and western rowing. The smart clothing offers professional athletes, their medical team and coach construct smart swimwear in real time for both male and female users. The athlete, coaching team and medical team are able to read the date of electronic module to train athletes easily.

The research investigates the smart swimsuit applying four steps. Firstly, the author interviewed 16 athletes to collect key data relating to the problems with existing sportswear in the context of competitive sports. Secondly, after developing a fashion illustration and completing a technical drawing of the garment, the athlete was invited to measure their body for pattern-making from body scanner electronically. Then, this study establishes a high accuracy pattern-making technology from the avatar by CLO 3D. Thirdly, the research takes a hands on approach to production; applying laser cutting technology, waterproof heat transfer film, and invention patent No. I1621405 for a 3D sculpturing garment manufacturing method and system to construct the cloth. The final step is to establish a primary smart clothing sample for the athlete wearing the garment and giving feedback about the fitting. The feedback was used. The research solves the fitting and pattern-making problem with existing sportswear by systematizing the fashion design procedure mathematically to form 16 smart clothing.

In summary, this study focusses on developing 16 smart clothing for Taiwan national athletes wishing to engage in competitive sports. It also demonstrated that a well-designed smart swimsuit has a high degree of pattern fitting. This made it possible to visualize the body data of athletes to complete further training such as 2019 Summer Universiade. These professionals intend to wear black and red color. The users of outdoor and indoor sports preferred UV cut and antibacterial textile respectively.
