CSC has developed technologies to increase the addition of scrap steel in the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) process. Since scrap steel is a nearly zero-carbon recycled material, it can reduce the carbon intensity of steel products. CSC has successfully established technologies such as "BOF heat compensation," "rapid scrap melting," and "secondary refining heating," and in 2021, it obtained the UL 2809 certification for SGCC RC12 galvanized steel products, becoming the first steelmaker globally to achieve UL certification. In 2022, CSC further obtained certification for SGCC RC20. In the future, we will continue to test higher scrap ratios for recycled materials, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by over 600,000 tons annually, equivalent to the CO2 absorption capacity of 1,500 Daan Forest Parks. This will provide customers with low-carbon, green products and leverage new business opportunities in carbon reduction for downstream steel users.

With annual crude steel production of 10 million metric tonnes, CSC’s main products include plates, bars, wire rods, hot and cold rolled coils, electrogalvanized coils, electrical steel coils, and hot-dip galvanized coils. The domestic market takes roughly 58.9% of CSC’s production and the exports take the remaining 41.1%. CSC is the largest steel company in Taiwan with market share of more than 50% and export products mainly to Southeast Asia, Europe and Japan.
