NHRI have been working with PDC4PM to plan and develop a baby sequencing program in Taiwan. On this basis, we are engaging with the International Consortium of Newborn Sequencing (ICoNS). Since this summer (of 2024), our team has been engaging with Professor Robert Green’s group (MGH-BWH Hospital in Boston and Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT) to organize an NHRI-BabySeq–ICoNS Collaboration, which will initially focus 80% on the leading-edge works being done at the other pioneering country projects, for example, BabySeq/GUARDIAN (US), Generation Study (Genomics England), and BabyScreen+ (Australia). Additionally, NHRI is going to dedicate 20% toward building the "Precision Healthy Taiwan" initiative toward a long-lasting program that puts Taiwan at the forefront of precision health and preventive medicine. Together, these activities should set up a long-term legacy for President Lai’s vision of “Healthy Taiwan”. As part of the collaboration, we are keen to seek the establishment of “ICoNS Accelerator Program” in Taiwan – a hub to provide training and educate for health professionals in Asia to incorporate baby sequencing into their existing newborn screening programs.
