Technology Introduction:
Developing Virtual Power Plant (VPP) technology will enable the effective integration and management of diverse distributed resources, including renewable energy, small generators, loads, charging station, and energy storage. This integration can achieve the functionality of a bi-directionally dispatchable power plant. Key technologies include the VPP decision-making system and the resource management U-Box.
The U-Box, developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), facilitates the rapid and secure integration of distributed resources into the VPP pool. Coupled with ITRI's VPP decision-making system, it enables the preemptive understanding of resource status and dynamic resource allocation to meet market technical demands.
Industry Applicability:
The U-Box developed by ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) enables rapid and secure integration of distributed energy resources to form a virtual power plant. It also functions as a simplified energy management system. Additionally, the virtual power plant decision-making system leverages AI-based forecasting technology to monitor resource margin fluctuations. Combined with dynamic resource management techniques, it enables optimal resource dispatch to meet market demands. This approach helps expand opportunities for private sector participation in Taipower’s ancillary services market, thereby enhancing grid operational flexibility.
ITRI is a world-leading applied technology research institute with more than 6,000 outstanding employees. Its mission is to drive industrial development, create economic value, and enhance social well-being through technology R&D. Founded in 1973, it pioneered in IC development and started to nurture new tech ventures and deliver its R&D results to industries. ITRI has set up and incubated companies such as TSMC, UMC, Taiwan Mask Corp., Epistar Corp., Mirle Automation Corp., and Taiwan Biomaterial Co.
