LED Lighting Device for the Control of Litchi Fruit Borer (Conopomorpha sinensis)
The litchi fruit borer (Conopomorpha sinensis) is the major pest in the litchi industry. By turning on LED lights of a specific wavelength at night, the oviposition rate of the litchi fruit borer can be suppressed to less than 2%, reducing the use of pesticides during the fruit development stages by 20-75%. This not only saves costs of manual pesticide application but also enhances consumer food safety. This technology has already been implemented in litchi-producing regions such as Pingtung, Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Hsinchu.
