Lateral Active Safety Systems
Technology Introduction:
The Lateral Active Safety System assists steering when braking is insufficient. Using cameras and radar, it enables lane changes, emergency evasion, and minimal risk management, overcoming the limits of braking-only AEB systems while meeting UNECE R171 and R157 requirements. The technology holds 18 patents, has been validated on domestic electric buses, and received the 2025 Edison Awards and 2024 TIE Gold Award.
Industrial Applications:
This system uses cameras and radar to detect road obstacles, side traffic, and driving risks. When braking alone may not prevent a collision, it assists steering to avoid hazards. If driver abnormality or system failure is detected, it can help the vehicle slow down and pull over safely. Without costly LiDAR, it is easier to mass-produce and can be applied to electric buses, commercial vehicles, passenger cars, public transportation, and smart fleets.

The Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC) was established in 1990 by the Ministry of Economic Affairs together with the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, the Environmental Protection Administration and representatives of the enterprises based on the Automotive Industry Development Policy, which was approved by the Executive Yuan on March 15, 1985.
